How to answer: why are you the right candidate for this position?

When you go in for an interview, you can be sure that one of the questions that will be asked is "Why are you the best candidate for this position?". This blog will show you how to answer.

When you go in for an interview, you can be sure that one of the questions that will be asked is "Why are you the best candidate for this position?".

Although the question might be phrased in a variety of ways, such as "Why should we employ you?" or "What makes you the best person for the job?" the intent of the question remains the same.

A little reflection, some research, and some preplanning are going to be needed to provide a proper answer.

Understand why you are being asked this question

Even though it seems to be a straightforward question, employers are interested in learning a lot more about you than simply the reason you are applying for the position.

First, they want to ensure that you have a complete understanding of the position. In addition, they want to know certain qualities that set you apart from the other candidates and that you have confidence in your abilities.

Study the job description

Keep in mind that not all positions have the same responsibilities and need the same skills and qualifications. A sales manager who works in an IT company has to deal with tasks that are unique from those of a sales manager who works in a clothing store.

Because not everything is relevant to the position, you will need to tailor your answer to fit the criteria outlined in the job description.

If the qualifications and tasks listed in the job description do not match up with your past experience, you need to consider the skills that you earned that are transferable and describe the qualities and accomplishments that set you apart from the competition.

Do research on the company

Each company is unique. It operates according to its own set of principles, ideas, and goals. These components form the core of the organization and serve as its guiding philosophy; they are essential to its success.

On the surface, you can see what makes up the body of the organization, which are the people who work there, the products they provide, and the clients they serve.

It's ridiculous to apply to a company without understanding what they do or what they stand for.

This is the reason why it is crucial to look through the company's website and social media and familiarize yourself with the products, services, and purpose of the organization.

Highlight your qualities and skills

The next thing you need to do in order to formulate a good response is to engage in some introspection into your skills and qualities.

After reviewing the company and the job description, the next step is to consider the abilities you already possess and how they may benefit the organization.

Make a list of any one-of-a-kind qualities or soft skills that can help you stand out, even if they aren't specifically mentioned in the job description.

This will demonstrate to the recruiter that you have much more to offer than what is required for the position, which will make you stand out even more.

It is recommended that you support the claims you are making with specific examples from your past experiences in which you put these skills to use.

Include past experiences and achievements

You need to explain that in addition to your abilities and characteristics, you have experience, you are knowledgeable of what you are doing, and you have results to back what you are saying.

Mention any experiences from your past that are relevant to the position, as well as your qualifications, and emphasize how your knowledge in the industry benefited the organization.

It is essential to include a list of accomplishments since they are the primary elements that will distinguish you from other candidates and make you seem remarkable.

Make it honest and personal

Get your reasons for applying straight in your head: What aspects of the work or the business really excite you? While hiring managers are searching for this in your response, you should also answer this question for yourself.

A response that goes beyond the question and demonstrates genuine interest and excitement for the company's vision, values, and culture is what sets a candidate apart from the other applicants.

It is likely that recruiters will notice if you are not being honest with your response; thus, you should try to be as genuine as possible without coming off as desperate or insulting anybody else.

Practice, practice, practice

After you have drafted an answer keeping all of the above stages in mind, the last step you need to do is rehearse as much as possible.

It is very common for employees to feel anxious and overwhelmed before interviews, and as a result, they may forget what they had planned to say.

This gives the impression that you are not adequately prepared and lack self-confidence, both of which will impact the decision that the employer makes.

Example:

I am certain that I am an excellent match for this role for a variety of reasons, the most significant of which is that I am a self-motivated individual who is prepared to go above and beyond on any assignment and develop valuable skills on my own time. For instance, in my previous job, I noticed that we were having problems filtering and combining data, so I devoted time and effort to exploring and learning programs that would do this job for the company. As a result, our team was able to increase productivity because we had much more time on our hands to focus on more important tasks.
